Exhibition extended for a special reason

Wedding season is upon us, as well as parties and barbeques and although I haven’t been away, I feel in holiday mode.  I was due to collect my paintings today from the close of the exhibition, but it has been extended until Saturday July 16th  to cover a special event – the marriage of my cousin and her partner!! Yippee and we are all very excited about it.  Sarah mentioned a while ago that she would like some of my paintings to hang on the walls in the wedding room at the castle which is also the exhibition room. It made perfect sense to leave them there and the next exhibiting artist and the curator kindly agreed to delay hanging the next exhibition until Sunday.   This also gives people more opportunity to view my work and I have added a couple of pieces as I have sold five and all have been taken away and are hopefully now gracing the walls of households from Yorks to Leics and also more locally here in Cornwall. I am also very inspired and grateful for the wonderful comments in the visitors book.  Many people have put a lot of thought into what they have written so thankyou very much.

Creative Mojo

Where’s my mojo??  A bad back – my own fault, too much dancing.  Winter in June – can you believe this weather!!  and Wimbledon, all mean I have had a very uneventful week.  However, it was brightened today by having coffee with two artist friends at the gallery where I am part of the “Eye to Cornwall” exhibition at the moment (see previous posts for details).  It is very refreshing to get a different viewpoint from other artists and Gabrielle, by name and by  nature is a real Angel.  She has such charisma, intelligence and love, she lights up your day whenever you meet her.  Encouraged by her comments, I came home, researched how to make my own canvases instead of buying ready made and started playing around with a newly discovered paint programme online.  It is called ArtRage.  http://www.artrage.com/artrage-demos.html . This link will take you to a download which gives you a whole month to play around with it for free. After working hard to get the exhibition pieces together, I realise the importance of play, new experiences with art, and taking time to try new things which are all working to bring back my “creative mojo”

Two paintings sold at exhibition

Wow!  Did I get a lovely surprise today….. Two of my paintings at the “An Eye To Cornwall” exhibition have sold, and they are the biggest ones too.  I feel mixed emotions.  These two paintings were my most recent and I was not really ready to part with them.  Having put so much time, energy and emotion into painting them, I was still quite attached to them.  In common with many painters, each new painting is always the best!!         My one regret is that I didn’t put SAE’s on the back so that purchasers can let me know where the paintings have gone, so if you are reading this and you kindly bought “Dancing Surf on an Incoming Tide” or “The Brilliance of Gorse 2 – Wanson Mouth”, would you please drop me an email or a note to let me know.  The purchasers must have been visitors to the area, as the paintings have been taken down and replaced with two others.

Peek-a-Blue

Another new painting which is in the exhibition “An Eye to Cornwall” at The Willoughby Gallery, The Castle Bude. EX23 8LG

This painting has been totally reworked as I was not happy with the original.  But some of the old painting has been allowed to show through and created wonderful scratched out lights and texture.  Peek- a – blue is a bit of a pun on peek-a-boo as it was quite a grey day and just a little blue sky was peeking through.

Peek -a-Blue. Oil painting framed 30cm x 20cm

More Paintings- “An Eye to Cornwall”

Dimity, Widemouth Bay

It takes time to get all this internet stuff sorted, so sorry for the unprofessional disjointed way I have presented it.  Its a case of finding time to edit, crop and present pictures of my paintings.  Some of the following are some of the smaller paintings on show, but with no less impact.  One is the largest at  I wonder how they reproduce in your eyes and how they compare in real life.

Windblown Gorse in a Cornish Hedge

Summer Warmth

Relax and Refocus

After all the organisation of the Royal Wedding street Party, I am able to relax, get back to a bit of house tidying and gardening and Painting!  I finished a large painting which I am sure is my best to date!  I am not going to post pictures of latest work as I am keeping it for its first show at my Exhibition in June.  More details will follow, but I have 10 pieces of work to submit which I am very pleased with.  5 are awaiting framing and need to dry  before that can be done, but I have at least booked a slot with the framers.  So I now only have 2 canvases in my studio. One is large and the other is gigantic.  Am I brave enough to start it.  Part of me can’t wait. But for me this is always part of the problem…..  I don’t want to rush into it.  Do I plan and it becomes tight or do I just instinctively paint.  I like to do the latter, but sometimes think a little forethought doesn’t go amiss. Will let you know how its going in the next post.

As a postnote, if anyone wants to see our fantastic street party on facebook, I think the photos can be viewed at www.facebook.com/victoriaroad

Art Anon – Postcard Exhibition

Arthouse in Penzance ( cornwall) are holding an exhibition of donated postcard sized artworks.  I intended to post a picture of the two postcards I have created, but then realised  they have to be anonymous! When I know details of when and where, I will post them up and perhaps post the postcards up after they have been sold. I am very pleased with them.  As I usually paint larger canvases, it was quite a challenge, but it gave me an opportunity to explore colour relationships, as I used left over bits of paint from canvases I am working on at the moment.

Details so far are below. Will let you know about location and time a.s.a.p. but it will be in Penzance.

Postcard ART ANON Exhibition

to raise money for the ‘Come Together’ compound (a school in Andre Pradesh, India.)

Postcard-sized art form many invited artists – including some very famous names

All art is signed on the back and priced at £10 each….so if you can spot the gem -you could be acquiring a valuable piece of art for as little as the price of a takeaway!
