Susie Two Brushes

A break from painting on canvas, today was the day to rally the troops – ie, my husband and son and paint the roadside of our garden wall. I have been waiting for this to be done for five years.  My husband apparently didn’t realise it was on the “to do list”.  A spot or two of drizzle nearly scuppered my plans to get it done this morning, but it didn’t take long with three of us.  Techniques varied and as usual I ended up with most paint on me – and I am supposed to be the artist. It was actually quite hard work trying to work the paint into the stippled surface and with two brushes on the go I was officially “susie two brushes”.

A day to cherish – our wedding street party!!

Our street party for the Royal Wedding was the most amazing day.. After watching the TV coverage and dashing to friends to catch some of it, the road closure signs were put out and it was all go from the minute the bell was rung up and down the street.  Everyone was out, carrying their tables, flowers, food, chairs and helping their neighbours set up.

Pinning down the cloths

Friends and family joined in and there was a wonderful atmosphere on a beautiful day, as we all shared our scones, cakes and sandwiches along with stories of old as people took in the memory and history boards of the road that had been put together.  There had never been as street party here before and it will certainly not be the last. Residents made the effort to talk to as many different people as possible, with new friendships being formed and for some, old friends rediscovered. The triumph of the day had to be  the entertainment provided by residents, Dick and Ann Dingle who played accordian and guitar all afternoon.

By Golly, I do believe Kim has a cup of tea in her hand.

The cutting of the Wedding Cake for all to share

Music has a way of lifting the spirit like nothing else and it was a “party” in the true sense of the word. A perfect way to celebrate where young and old got together and where bonds of friendship will bind us together in the true sense of neighbourliness.  The  tables weren’t cleared off the road until 8’ish  as the last embers of the barbeque died down.  Talk was of making it an annual event, or at least for next year for the Diamond Jubilee.

Picnic postponed for later

We have had the most beautiful March. Light winds and warm sunny days.  I had high hopes of it staying for the weekend and going to the beach, collecting mussels, cooking al fresco with a chilled white wine and enjoying the company of our eldest son and girlfriend who were coming back for the day… ( it will be  Mothers Day!!) Looks like I’ll be doing the cooking, but I love planning a day like this. Like most mums, I am in my element. Anyway. Plan B will have to go into action because it looks like typical March/April weather is returning.  How quickly we forget!! … woke to a mild, windy and blustery showery day. Picnic put off for another day . The thought was there anyway and am sure we will have a lovely day whatever. More soon…..

Birthdays and Gardening

The veg patch needs some attention and the spuds are in! May need some protection from frosts, but down here in the southwest, we can usually harvest mid May which is a good few weeks before the rest of the country.
Family birthdays galore at the this end of the Month, and after taking a full roast dinner to Exeter for my son, yesterday was a lunch party for my lovely mother and another big family lunch at the farm tomorrow. So the spuds are planted, baked cheesecake cooling, out to dinner tonight with friends after an afternoon of rugby!
Oh …. its a hard life.!!!
